about

A song about the idea that just because we live in a godless world does not mean that the atheists are right. Just because there is no scientific evidence of the existence of God does not me he does not exist somewhere. I'd like to think that if we could travel back in time with our current technology he would be pretty easy to find. I good friend of mine after reading the lyrics(prior to its recording) asked if I was a fan of Sartre. That was the most flattering thing anyone has said about the song.

lyrics

God’s Not Dead

God’s not dead but he ain’t here
He was last seen at Kennedy nursing a beer
With a shot and a cigarette and a copy of Catcher in the Wry

He told me, “Don’t worry it’ll be alright.
We can drink and smoke and get real tight
You’re never gonna win but it never hurts to try”

“You’re gonna miss me when I’m gone
But you won’t miss me for very long
‘Cause you’ll be back on that track and suffering the daily grind”

He took one final drink; one final drag
And he laughed just a little as he picked up his bag
He said, “I’m just simply running out of time”

God’s not dead, he’s just gone
You hear him in your head
Your probably wrong
God’s not dead, he just said goodbye
And everything he said
Feel free to defy

Was it existential musing about his plight
Or was he just worried about missing his flight
I never really understood a single word he said

I thought to myself as I finished my beer
Things might be better if he were a bit more clear
God’s not here but at least he ain’t dead

God’s not dead, he’s just gone
You hear him in your head
Your probably wrong
God’s not dead, he’s just said goodbye
And everything he said
Feel free to defy

He told me, “Don’t worry it’ll be alright.
“We can drink and smoke and get real tight
“You’re never gonna win but it never hurts to try”
“You’re never gonna win but it never hurts to try”
“You’re never gonna win I’ll see you on the other side”
