Let It Burn 04:01
Let It Burn I’m not a reader, I’m a writer I’m not a dreamer, I’m a fighter I’m not a leader, I’m a lighter So let it burn, let it burn, let it burn I’m standing on the edge of the river pain Watching the water rise I’m standing in the wake of the pouring rain Falling from your eyes

Nothing Left to Do (But Cry) There’s nothing left to do but cry There’s nothing left to do but cry Nobody would blame you if you wanted to try But there ain’t nothing left to do but cry It’s always darkest before the dawn That ol’ cliché just may be true But when the dawn is totally gone There ain’t nothin’ left to do There’s nothing left to do but cry There’s nothing left to do but cry Nobody would blame you if you wanted to try But there ain’t nothing left to do but cry We’ve caused ourselves a lot of pain God knows that’s true There’s nobody left for use to blame There’s only me and you There’s nothing left to do but cry There’s nothing left to do but cry Nobody would blame you if you wanted to try But there ain’t nothing left to do but cry

Yesterday’s Dreams I’ve been to Georgia on a fast train I’ve been to Memphis in the pouring rain I’ve been to Nashville, but I didn’t stay long I couldn’t write that perfect song I left home at 17 Gonna find a way to pursue my dream When I come home you’ll all know my name But everything just stayed the same Yesterday’s dream won’t let me be Yesterday’s dream won’t set me free Won't set me free I’ve been to Harlem on the A train On the 5:15 I was out of my brain I caught a tan standing in the pouring rain I cut my teeth on Memory Pain When I look back on everything I feel the past and I want to sing Let the music feed your soul Don’t be afraid to lose control Yesterday’s dreams won’t let me be Yesterday’s dreams won’t set me free Won't set me free

Jockey Full of Bourbon Edna Million in a drop dead suit Dutch pink on a downtown train Two dollar pistol but the gun won't shoot I'm in the corner in the pouring rain 16 men on a dead man's chest And I've been drinking from a broken cup 2 pairs of pants and a mohair vest I'm full of bourbon; I can't stand up. Hey little bird, fly away home Your house is on the fire; your children all alone Hey little bird, fly away home Your house is on the fire; your children all alone[ Schiffer broke a bottle on Morgan's head And I've been stepping on the devil's tail Across the stripes of a full moon's head Through the bars of a Cuban jail Bloody fingers on a purple knife Flamingo drinking from a cocktail glass I'm on the lawn with someone else's wife Admire the view from on top of the mast Chorus Yellow sheets in a Hong Kong bed Stazybo horn and a Slingerland ride To the carnival is what she said A hundred dollars makes it dark inside 16 men on a dead man's chest And I've been drinking from a broken cup 2 pairs of pants and a mohair vest I'm full of bourbon; I can't stand up.

God’s Not Dead God’s not dead but he ain’t here He was last seen at Kennedy nursing a beer With a shot and a cigarette and a copy of Catcher in the Wry He told me, “Don’t worry it’ll be alright. We can drink and smoke and get real tight You’re never gonna win but it never hurts to try” “You’re gonna miss me when I’m gone But you won’t miss me for very long ‘Cause you’ll be back on that track and suffering the daily grind” He took one final drink; one final drag And he laughed just a little as he picked up his bag He said, “I’m just simply running out of time” God’s not dead, he’s just gone You hear him in your head Your probably wrong God’s not dead, he just said goodbye And everything he said Feel free to defy Was it existential musing about his plight Or was he just worried about missing his flight I never really understood a single word he said I thought to myself as I finished my beer Things might be better if he were a bit more clear God’s not here but at least he ain’t dead God’s not dead, he’s just gone You hear him in your head Your probably wrong God’s not dead, he’s just said goodbye And everything he said Feel free to defy He told me, “Don’t worry it’ll be alright. “We can drink and smoke and get real tight “You’re never gonna win but it never hurts to try” “You’re never gonna win but it never hurts to try” “You’re never gonna win I’ll see you on the other side”

Good Time Jake Good time Jake he’s gotta plan Poor the drinks strong when they kick up the band Nothing’s wrong when the band starts to swing Your favorite song’s what they start to sing The music’s hot; the vodka’s cold The night is young but it’s growing old Get up Get on with what it’s all about Get up or get out If you have any doubt The sun ain’t up and the lights are hot It’s time to jump ready or not You better spend some cash; find a friend The place starts jumpin’ right around ten Get out on the dance floor workin’ up a lather By 3 AM nothin’ gonna matter Good time Jake keeps pouring the beer Sunday morning you still can’t hear Get up Get on with what it’s all about Get up or get out If you have any doubt The sun ain’t up and the lights are hot It’s time to jump ready or not

Simon Pure Labrick Blues I woke up this morning and wrote myself a song It wasn’t very good but it’s not too long It has lots of hooks which is just what you need And juvenile entendre about planting seeds There’s an obligatory shanty down by the riverside And a line or two about someone who died And a whiskey still and a shot gun and a razor in my shoe When you’re down on your luck what else can you do About that time in walks the Jezebel Queen Of the Mississippi Delta and boy was she mean She starts into harpin’ “Harpin’ on Me” is all I could hear That’s your cue boy, put a harp noise here. She smoked and she drank and she sometimes cursed Chased every thrill even robbed a nurse Why’d she rob a nurse you may ask; It’s such an unusual crime Maybe she did it so I could make this rhyme

Judas Goat 07:10
The Judas Goat An empty pack of cigarettes without the will to quit Sifting through the ashes at the bar where I sit Waiting in the hours of the calm before the storm A tin-horn piper with a $40 horn I’ll drink like Paganini, lead the rats to the water Or the gin or the vodka like the lamb to the slaughter Another Judas goat in a pied and tattered coat I can sell another drink if I play the perfect note Some will never drink, they will only drown And I’ll lead them to the river with just the perfect sound Some are lost in the darkness trying to be found I’m another Judas Goat with a coxcomb for a crown

about

Their newest recording Judas Goat is made up of 8 new songs. While this album is a bit of a departure from the band’s usual live performances, it is true to a long blues tradition, while still having an original sound. The album has a generally subdued vibe that is enhanced by very long arrangements. Many of the songs exceed 5 minutes, and the title track is over 7 minutes long. This album is not for beginners. It does not pander to the base with “clever” hook driven shuffles and jump songs with cheesy double entrendre. It’s lyrics are decidedly un-”hooky.” They are stories, and they have an air of personal pain and authenticity that may not impinge on the first listen.

about

Big Daddy T Band Atlanta, Georgia

Influenced by a wide range of blues styles – ranging from 20’s jazz and country blues from the 30s, electric Chicago-style blues, and the electric blues rock of the first wave of English interpreters of the blues – bassist and vocalist Tony “Big Daddy T” Wisler has distilled it all to create a unique style of house-rockin’ blues that goes well beyond the expected 12-bar format. ... more
